Ways of Preventing Fleas in Pets
Most people love to keep pets in their homes and they are a good companion apart from that at times they can be affected by pests. The season and the place that one lives in are factors upon which the pests that affect the pets depend on. The pets will be affected by some pests such as the fleas which can be a big problem. All year long fleas can be a concern in warmer climates. They are usually a concern for the pets and the family healthy. In some colder areas the pests can give someone together with their pets a resting time but that does not mean that they will not be back. Since they will always look for their next home during such times they will actually be back during the warmer season.
Caused by fleas are a lot of health concerns for the pets and they include; flea allergy dermatitis, anemia and many more. Flea allergy dermatitis is a very common skin disease in pets such as cats and dogs which is associated with flea bites. In the pets the skin disease causes a lot of itching and scratching which in turn leads to hair loss. Anemia on the other hand is also associated with flea bites. Signs of anemia in an animal can be; weariness, pale skin, chills and shortness of breath. A lasting impact towards the animals’ health and happiness can be achieved by avoiding the pet from full infestation from the fleas maybe during peak seasons. That one’s pet has flea infestation the signs can be noticeable skin problems such as hair loss, hot spots and rashes. This can be caused by the saliva from fleas if the pet suffers from serious allergic reactions. This is usually a common sign of fleas in any animal.
On the fur or the skin of the animal flea dirt can result to black peppered spots. A combination of the flea waste and blood that develops as the flea bites and sucks blood out of the pets is the flea dirt. If one passes a moist towel over the flea dirt it will leave a brownish red stain and therefore if a person is not sure whether the spots are flea dirt they can pass a moist towel over it. The other sign that an animal is infested with fleas is excessive chewing and scratching. On the animals an itching sensation is caused by the saliva that is secreted by the fleas which results to a lot of scratching. The skin of the animal can be caused by scratching to get injuries and have wounds and also can cause flea allergy dermatitis and other secondary bacterial skin infections because of the open wounds.
